I don't smoke...I'm asthmatic. I remember my sophomore year of college,
I tried to smoke a pipe, you know, to be dignified and look "highly" intelligent...(quit
laughing!). After about 4 weeks, one of which was at my home for Thanksgiving,
I had an epiphany and suddenly decided to quit. Well, at least I made that
Thanksgiving a "happy" one because all of my aunts and uncles, cousins and
my Grandma Richter sure seemed to be laughing and smiling a lot...at me! When I
got back to 3305 East Lake Street in Minneapolis, I grabbed the ole' Meerschaum
by the stem and heaved it into the river gorge between Minneapolis and St. Paul
and honestly enjoyed watching it take its "death flight"...NEVER
SMOKED again! Today we have a very interesting and yet
silly conundrum – laws and regulations have been passed to "outlaw" and ban tobacco
smoking in bars, bowling alleys, cafes, even outside in some city parks. Tobacco
is still a legal product and yet we treat it more criminal
than we do many other "vices". And here's the silly ambiguity
– States like Colorado, Oregon and Washington are all jumping on the "Pro Pot" bandwagon
and begging lawmakers to allow getting "fuzzy headed" and "addle brained" legal!...and
more states are getting in line! Okay, class, let me sum up. Smoking legal
tobacco is bad, ugly, immoral and corrupt...BUT...Smoking
illegal marijuana (legal some places) and exhaling fumes that will save the
bottoms of everyone's shoe leather...that's OK???? In Denver, you can be thrown
out of a bar for lighting up a cigarette BUT...go next
door to a legal marijuana shop and inhale and exhale until you see mud turtles
singing Elvis Presley songs on dashboard of a '57 Chevy! It's no wonder our kids
think that society in general is...NUTS....WE ARE!
I've taken stock of my current situation and consolidated some of my thoughts into
these facts.
#1 I feel I have approximately 19 days left before I go completely
demented by "staying" inside this house. I'm even jealous of the dog going outside
27 times a day to pee...Yes, I'm not embarrassed to say I'M
jealous of the dog!!
#2 When you "sit" on something for a long period of time,
it has a tendency to expand. As of now, my big butt feels like it's the
size of Rhode Island and its slowly creeping into Connecticut! I'm soft and fleshy
like a pregnant jelly fish and I'm lazy...I hate that word...yes, I'm
LAZY!
#3 I have a sneaking suspicion there's a plot to kill me...and
I know by whom!! Oh, sure you say, you "KNOW" Goober, you
just "love her personality and everything about her...but please!...Mark my words...at
this moment she's becoming very....dangerous! I know we've been "cooped
up" in this house for over a month, I know she's waiting rather "impatiently" for
a "breakout", and I know that, yes, I have got on her nerves a time
or two BUT the way she used her steak knife the other evening
was very unnerving to me! There was a sinister, shallow gleam in her eyes
and the steak she was "cutting" NEVER stood a chance! I'm telling
you, I've got to heal in a hurry...my life is at STAKE! (steak?!)
Thanks to all of you that have been so kind to send letters, emails, cards, gifts,
flowers – all of you are loved and appreciated. I absolutely realize how "rich"
I am with all the friends that have stepped forward – God Bless All of
You!
