My mind started to wander...really wander. Suddenly I was on
the "Time Bandit" fishing boat on the TV series "Deadliest Catch". I was throwing
out the "hook" to catch the pots of crab and...oh, my goodness!!!! I threw myself
overboard!! OH NO!...I came to my senses. A
few minutes later...oh boy,...I started wandering again. This time I was on a mountain
ledge, 500 feet straight down and I was warding off an enraged mountain goat with
one of my crutches! I jabbed and struck the crazed goat and he kept on trying to
"butt" me off the ledge, suddenly he wrenched my crutch from my arm and I watched
as the disappearing aluminum walking aid twinkled in the sunlight as it faded to
the canyon floor below...I...now on one leg and one crutch...was doomed! Whoops!
Whoa...wait...I'm coming "back around" again. You're probably asking yourself "What
is causing Ole Zeb to mentally visualize doom and terror...? Soccer, yes, soccer.
I tried to watch the "World Cup". I tried to "get into" the flow of the game. I
tried to get excited when there was a GOOOAL! But nope....
didn't work. Soccer, in my humble opinion, is as much fun to watch as worms crawling
across pavement after a summer rain. I just don't get it. The "plays" resemble
a plot of the old "Keystone Cops" and the net result is as boring as a Hillary Clinton
love letter to Bill...it just ain't there!! I know there's a global push
to make soccer the sport of all nations but I honestly would be more interested
in learning about the mechanics of a toilet flush! Give me the rock em' sock em'
of a middle linebacker hit on a running back that from that day forward he
can't remember what team he plays for...give me a fastball under the chin of the
home run hero and both benches erupt in a "knuckle slinging, can't hit the
broad side of a barn" brawl! Give me a game winning dunk by a huge power forward
that thumps his chest and tells his mamma hello!...Give me real sports! Give
me the post game interviews about the home run, or the winning touchdown pass...what's
a soccer player gonna' say..."Well, we ran a lot today...??" BORING.
Recently, 2 of the soccer teams at the World Cup played to a tie...a tie....that
was "it" - a tie! Playing to a tie and ending the game with a "tie" is like celebrating
your honeymoon 500 miles apart from your spouse... you get all worked up but...for
what???....Did I mention I don't like
soccer?
Wow! Next week the 4th of July! Whew! Where in the world has the summer gone?
What have I accomplished? No much. My leg has not been healing and strengthening
as much as I had hoped...but...then I saw the TV story about the Vets and their
severe injuries. No legs, no arms and yes...smiles on their faces! Again...Wow!
How dare I complain about my aches and pains when they, our Vets, have lost and
suffered so much. I'll look at our flag on the 4th of July and I'll see
all of their faces and I'll be thankful and proud of WHAT
they fought for and how they served us! God Bless our Veterans, God Bless our military...God
Bless America!
