I've just finished reading the sports section of USA Today. There was a great, very informative story about the NEW Texas Football Coach Charlie Strong. The gist of the article is that the new coach is NOT going to accept mediocrity, NOT going to accept "this is how we've done it before" and NOT going to accept this is as good as it gets – NOPE. Charlie Strong's attitude of WE WILL get better or we'll find someone else, we will be tougher and we will put forth a better image...reminded me of what America isn't today. America has slumped to accept mediocrity...well, NOT the University of Texas Football Team...not under the leadership of Charlie Strong. One quote I really thought about was this "It's all about putting a "T" back into Texas. You talk about toughness, you talk about trust, you talk about togetherness, and you talk about just becoming a TEAM"....Toughness, Trust, Togetherness, Team...MMM...all the attributes to help make our Country great again! And you know what?...the players like it, too! One player said "You work for what you get...that's the way life is. In life you're never going to be given something. You're always going to have to work for it"...WOW! The Texas players ARE buying into a work ethic that reaps personal rewards...just like America had when I was growing up! Wait a second...you don't suppose with honest "toughness" and determined dedication WE could turn this "Welfare Wagon" around and re-develop sound principles and work ethics that would make people proud to go out and be achievers!? Holy paychecks!! Charlie Strong may not make Texas a National Champion...but...he may help create many champions in the game of life. His "No Mamby Pamby" attitude accepted here is a good thing on or off a playing field. You "wimps and crybabies and wannabees" need not apply, don't even try to "suit up" - you're not tough enough or good enough to make waves in helping America become the world leader it once was and CAN be again. God Bless Texas and Charlie Strong – I hope they go undefeated....just like America!

Sometimes you have to sit back and analyze "Common Sense" and how it relates to self inflicted pain and injury. I team rope. Sounds gentle enough...stay clean, just go out and head and heel a steer with your partner...as fast as possible – then go back to the trailer and leisurely drive to the next event...ho hum. However, steer wrestlers (bulldoggers) I've often thought, have no respect for their bodies or their dignity as they, in less than 4 seconds can "look" like they've been dragged through a garbage dump! Last night we drove down to watch some "bulldoggers" practice! First, they loaded the steers in the chute and took turns, standing on foot, "catching" the steer as they exploded from the chute and running alongside and then applying the brakes and going ahead with the "throw". I can see where it's great fun to have your biceps and shoulders bruised, contused and abused by a 650 pound steer bent on running through you or over you! One rather large, surly farm bovine literally shook off and tossed "like a salad" a 6'2" 200 pound cowboy, Tanner Stanger, my neighbor. After he collected himself...arm over there, boot here and ear lobe from a dirt clod,...he got ready to throw another! NOW they were warmed up so they got their horses to have all this fun again...but now at 35 MPH! Oh, the delight of having your kneecaps say hello to your shoulders and your ankles turn into broken shards of fractured bone...but hey!...this is cowboy fun!! I really can't say TOO much because last week I stuck a spur in Ole Dunny's flank and I'm black and blue from my navel to my knees...he did buck!! Common sense and cowboys...that is the ultimate oxymoron.

Don't forget Dr-History.com! Exciting episodes of the old West!!
