Oops! Yes...OOPS!!! We just barely got home this
early AM (2:30) and dropped into bed! The phone starting ringing at 7:30 (which
I ignored...temporarily) and then slowly got out of bed. Deanne and I had
been in Utah for the Golden Spike Rodeo in Tremonton, and what a fantastic rodeo.
I've announced this event, off and on, for the past 25 years and under the current
leadership of Brent Rose as Chairman and his excellent Board, this rodeo is second
to NONE!...But it was wet...very wet and COLD!
Rain, hail and wind and chilling temps made it a little uncomfortable, but, the
action really warmed things up. Jeff and Wendie Flitton have taken over the -T
Rodeo Company and they have done a wonderful job of producing a fast, colorful and
exciting rodeo with the best of bucking stock...it really is an announcer's
dream. My lovely wife was one of the timers and her assistance to me (especially
now with my banged up legs) is invaluable. "Trying" to get up into some announcers
stands with knees not working is tough, coming down is somewhat of
a "Look out below!" Many folks from Idaho "come on down" to the Golden Spike, and
as one neighbor said "It's more fun than any rodeo close at home"...that's true.
The Golden Spike Board cares about the family entertainment value
and works hard to make everything better, every performance. As I said, it's an
announcer's dream. However, after "dropping" into bed as I said earlier, and finally
waking up at 7:30!!! (late for Goober and I) my lovely bride informed me I had
NOT written "Cowpies". So, what you're getting this week is a
hurry up, thrown together version written on a Sunday morning...sorry. As I write
this, with all the rain we've had lately, my thoughts and prayers go out to all
the farmers that have lost so much in revenue on their hay and grain. We
pray for moisture, we live in a desert, and yes, our prayers were answered.
Now, I hope that our neighbors can make it through a financially tough time and
look forward, as farmers do, to a better year next year.
God help us, guide us and protect us. As I write this, I'm very worried
(afraid?) as to how serious the threats of the terrorist Islamic thugs, ISIS,
really is. Are they here...probably. Are they going to strike US like 9/11...probably.
Are they capable of creating a mass disaster...YES. We need "tough"
leadership that is ready to go after these vermin NOW,
not with a slap on the wrist, but with devastating killing power to eliminate
their threat to peace loving people. I pray we can stop them. If not, their threat
of an Islamic flag flying over the White House may have credibility – Be aware my
friends – the enemy is lurking and we must be prepared!
