Christmas has always been very special to me. Growing up in southeastern
Wisconsin, you could always depend on a white Christmas AND
plenty of delicious goodies. I remember the grade school skits and songs I participated
in, and huge Richard Ralph falling off the stage, taking the curtain with him. I
remember Mrs. Kiltz putting her "soul" into having a great Christmas pageant every
year – she was a fantastic teacher. I remember the snow...lots and lots
of snow! I'll never forget one Christmas in particular, the snow started falling
three days before Jesus' birthday and never quit until three days after! Over 3
1/2 feet of snow and drifts over 7 feet and no way to get anywhere! Dad
literally had no options on what to do with all the "Angel Dandruff" and just getting
to the barn to feed the horses was a major challenge. I remember it was a "tradition"
for the neighbors to come up to our home Christmas morning for a glass of homemade
wine and a piece of Mom's coffee cake. I remember stringing the cranberries and
popcorn for the trimming of the tree...and I remember how sore my fingers
were from "missing the target" with the needle. I remember it was my job (honor!)
to put together the Nativity under the tree...and then I'd just lay on the floor
and wonder what is was really like on that Holy Night so long ago....I remember
my first Christmas away from home...a long way from home, 1969, Twin Falls, Idaho.
I remember my Mom sending me a little two foot tall artificial Christmas tree, and
wow, as lonesome as I was that li'l tree was very special. I remember the
first Christmas with my lovely wife Deanne and the 43 Christmas's since....she is
the greatest gift I've ever had. I remember Jake and Tobee Jo creating a monumental
catastrophic mess in our living room...and now how I wish it would happen again.
Christmas is so special, with so many life lasting memories. Enjoy it, embrace
it and cherish it and please remember this on Christmas Eve "For God so loved the
world, the He gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him shall not
perish, but have eternal life"....
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
There is still time. By the time that you read this blog, you still
have time. Time for what?...time to do something really nice
or helpful for someone...anyone...at Christmas time. The lonely man down
the street, a family barely scraping by, a Veteran home from the war, but the war
still lives in his home...someone, anyone may need a little of YOU
this Christmas. Close your eyes for a moment,...think and reflect about
those who may need a li'l nudge toward happiness this Christmas...okay....open your
eyes and go help someone...see!!! Your Christmas is already merrier!!!!
