The ice cream social is over...Good Bye heritage from the past. As
I was sitting at my desk this morning, trying to figure out WHAT
I'd write about for "Cowpies"...it hit me...my past, my heritage, my fond memories
of MY youthful America...are gone! My Grandma Richter used
to live right across the street from the City Park and every other Thursday evening
during the summer, my hometown would host a band concert and ice cream and pie social.
I'd beg Mom and Dad if I could stay overnight at Grandma's and enjoy the music...oom
pah pah...oom pah pah, and the "deeeeelicious" pies topped with a huge slab of real
ice cream!! WOW! We'd sit on the front porch and watch the people
as they would walk up and say "Hello...sure is warm tonight!" Life was good, life
was pleasant...life was full of living...when I was in grade school, cupcakes,
cookies or ice cream was the "NORM" when someone had a birthday...funny...NO ONE was obese...NO ONE clamored
for broccoli as a replacement. At church on Sunday morning...whew! Fire and brimstone
from Pastor Hoenoke...there were no excuses or changing of what God's
Word said and meant! And our flag...the flag of the United States of America....,
my folks, my teacher Mrs. Kiltz and many others drilled into my head time and again,
how lucky we were to live in the USA...and they were sooo right....but now,
today, "leaching liberalism" has cut out and trashed the value system in our land,
and replaced it with an evil, sinister cancer that's eating away at all the "good"
this Country has produced. What we eat, what we do, where we go, what we say, what
we study, what we believe...is all scrutinized and under attack. I pray for the
"good ole' days", I pray for common sense and decency to return, I pray for America
to stand tall again...if not...the ice cream social is over...FOREVER!
This past week, I had a husband and wife "team" on my program...Ben and Lacey Thompson
from Camas County, Idaho. What Lacey has been through with severe spinal injuries
since she was a baby to what she has accomplished so far in her life is amazing.
She is confined to a wheel chair but don't let that word confined fool you.
She is a Champion Para-Olympic skier, a great singer/song writer, dog sled trainer
and driver and great friend and wife to Ben. As for Ben, he's "John Wayne" personified.
He's polite, he's tough, he's caring and above all...he and Lacey are a "loving
team" to get through all challenges and succeed. By having them on my show....it
helped me to remember and be grateful for "Goober". We've had more than "just a
few" glitches and hurts and hardships...but she's always there...MY
#1 support! We all have "peaks and valleys" but if you have that special someone
like Ben and Lacey and me with "Goober" those peaks are not so tall and the
valleys are not ever too deep...God's greatest gift is sitting right
next to you!

And not one of them has said they're offended!
