Decisions...sometimes they're difficult to make. Sometimes we fail
to muster the courage to make them. I've got to decide whether I'm going to have
a much needed hip replacement NOW, or...wait possibly till next
fall. On top of THAT decision, I need to have both
shoulders rebuilt...decisions! The old cowboy saying "If I'd known I was going
to live this long...I'd taken better care of myself"...that's true, but I really
don't think I'd want to change a thing. When you "play the game" and live the lifestyle
I have for the past 45 years...you become a health insurance company's worst nightmare!
With the thrice broken legs and arms, broken shoulders and hips, smashed face, smashed
knee, all ribs broken three times and a heart attack and a mini-stroke...the insurance
companies have never sent me a Christmas card! However... honestly...God
has blessed me with a never dull(!?!) wild ride for a life. I've enjoyed
the best of what my occupation and hobby have to offer. I've experienced
the highs of being the best at what I do...and I've experience the crushing devastation
blow of losing...really losing...at that point...Enter God! HE
created me with a grit (stubbornness!) and drive that has kept me reaching higher
even when I hit rock bottom. He gave me a wife that has been my rock and my "Life
Coach". Just about the time I feel a "pity party" coming on, Deanne has a way of
sticking a pin in that hot air balloon and get me back on the road to "right"
thinking. Look around you...you will find all kinds of folks with
all kinds of dilemmas...most worse off than...YOU!
I'm writing this sitting in the waiting room at Utah's University Hospital Orthopedic
lounge. People with smashed limbs, partial limbs or no limbs are here
for examination and hopefully... help, YUP...I've been blessed...at
least I can make a decision that may make me better...most of these
folks...it's as good as it gets!
Merry Christmas!!...I love this time of year! The decorations,
the Christmas carols, Nativity scenes, cookies, the lights, the church services,...oh,
and did I say cookies??? The only thing about the Christmas season that
is really hard for me to get into.........is shopping. All the people
and the walking and looking, and the carrying and the sweating in a guaranteed 30
below jacket during your trek to the mall...and when I finally get back to my pickup,
I'm ready...really ready for more than just a couple of adult Christmas
cheers!...(should have had those before I left!!). Some of Goober and my
worst and quite frankly, almost death defying "arguments" have occurred while "shopping"!
I like to go in the store – buy the item – and be out of the store in a maximum
of 4 minutes – longer creates irritation! I wear Wranglers, boots and either
a solid or stripe button down shirt – easy! I go in, get "them" and I'm headed
for the ranch. Shopping has become almost an athletic event for some. I remember
hearing a woman interviewed on TV, regarding why she did so much walking in October
and remembered her response...I'm getting fit and ready to shop for Christmas!...What?
It wasn't about better health, it wasn't about losing weight...it was to exercise
for shopping?? Good grief, hide your Master Card – here comes a Mall Walker!!!!
Don't forget Dr-History.com! Exciting episodes of the old West!! Now in 110 countries...110!!
And not one of them has said they're offended!
