You hear it all the time...I'm sooo thankful, I'm sooo blessed, I'm sooo grateful...are we...really?? I think (me included) these words are too easy to say and is the feeling really there? Of all people I really have a basket full of real blessings...some that I've overlooked and haven't appreciated: Here's my list of "thankful" prayers.
#1 God and His Son and my Savior Jesus – over the many years of doing and thinking only for myself...I am extremely thankful He hasn't turned and rode away from me. At this time in my life when there's more in the rear view mirror than there is in the front windshield, I'm blessed that I've become a more "aware" Christian. Before going further, for friends reading this, they know I still have a lot of "rough edges", but my faith has never been stronger. Thank you, God!
#2 My wife and family – Deanne and I recently observed our 45th anniversary, and I love and treasure her more today than all the years before. We pray together, hold hands in church like a couple of "teenyboppers" and enjoy each other's company. As in all marriages, we've had our share of "rocks in the trail" but with the Lord's help, we're together and thankful the mailbox still says Zeb & Deanne Bell – Thank you, God! As for my kids...WOW!...they are everything a father could want – successful, good parents and nice people – Thank you, God!
#3 My friends and neighbors – over the 40 plus years of traveling on the pro-rodeo circuit, I've been blessed with friends from Topeka, Kansas to Clovis, California, from Gladstone, New Jersey to Fort Worth, Texas. I've always felt secure, that no matter where I was, I KNEW someone in the area that I could call and get help! Thank you, God!
#4 God gave me another gift that every day I appreciate...the gift of NEVER, EVER give up and TRY and when that fails...TRY HARDER! I've had 100's of opportunities to say "that's it – I'm done", but God has always been there to prod me with the toe of his "Tony Lama" and I've never quit at anything...and I won't start now...Thank You, God!
I put hope that when you read this, YOU will look around and be thankful for what you have, not selfish for more of what you want! From Deanne and I to all of you – MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND FOR A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING.
We'll saddle the horse again next week...take care!
