Go ahead...feel sorry for yourself...then look around. A couple of weeks ago, I started a "Pity Party" for just ME, I was the only one invited. I planned on sitting in my favorite chair and just staring out the window, chanting "Woe is me, woe is me!" After a while, I got up and "dragged my chin across the floor" to my living room, turned on the TV and commiserated with myself.
Suddenly, a public service announcement for the Shriners Childrens Hospital was staring into my woebegone face!! There was a chunky lil' lad named Alex sitting in a wheelchair with a huge Santa Claus twinkle in his eye telling the world about how the Shriners need financial help caring for children who are facing mountainous challenges. Some of these great, smiling kids have no arms, some no legs, some with severe birth defects...but all with smiles that light up the screen. I will never forget little Alex, what a cherubic face and excellent spokesman for the Shriners – this young man will succeed in life regardless of what he doesn't have!
Okay back to me. From feeling like I had to crawl up on a rock to kick a snake in the butt...I noticed I had a smile on my face and felt pretty darn good! Oh I've had perhaps more than my share of mishaps, broken bones and close calls...but hey, I'm 69 and have had one great ride! So, if you get an itty-bitty paper cut, or feel that the world is a flyswatter and you're the fly - - - think about those kids. All of us need to be much more thankful for what we have and not gripe and moan for what we want....Go ahead....feel sorry for yourself....then look around.
"Cowpies" is going on vacation for a couple of weeks. Please don't think I'm quitting this blog if you don't see it 'til mid-February. My lovely bride and I are planning to use lawn chairs and adult beverages over the next few weeks - - - Adios and above all....GOD BLESS!
