If you think it's easy...TRY IT! Over the years I've heard people (that have a tendency to be blowhards!) say... "Rodeo announcer!! Heck, that'd be a piece of cake!" or "Talk show host!... mmph! Just sit and talk for three hours, anybody can do that!!". Whether you're an insurance agent, truck driver or schoolteacher, there's always someone, somewhere that thinks and speaks foolishly that your job doesn't amount to much work or effort. How stupid. In my case as a talk show host, I have to know the sources where I can book the people that are knowledgeable about the subjects I schedule. I get up every morning at 4:00 AM, work out, eat and in my office by 5 to start studying the guests and segments. My wife is on the computer by 5:30 helping me verify information and contacting New York and Washington D.C. for updated info. By 6 AM I've read 2 newspapers, and have clipped out and highlighted all the related stories associated with my guests and their topics. I "ad lib" all of my commercials (make them up on the fly!!) and I read all the new info that they, the sponsors need to promote. At 7 AM I start calling news bureaus on the East Coast to see if any "new" developments may change the jist of my segments then...at 8:06 AM the show starts and being live for three hours – no mistakes are acceptable...it has to be right! The same with my rodeo announcing career. My "pre show" work usually is about 4-5 hours everyday before a performance, memory work on certain contestants, checking stats, knowing and learning about the livestock, public service "Thanks", committee notes for the audience, guest appearances on TV and radio, visiting with the newspaper sports editor, a visit to the local hospital or talk to the Kiwanis Club...oh gee!! I'd better shower, shave and head for the arena...I've got a three hour performance to announce??...If you think its easy...try it!

Some ole' boy stopped by my place the other day and without asking or telling me what he was going to do...started spray painting in bright orange weird little figures and numbers all across my lawn and both driveways...mmmmm! I don't like bright orange (only at Halloween) and not being told what and why he did this...I got mad! Unfortunately, (fortunately for him) he quickly left before I could confront him. So, I stood there looking at the orange hieroglyphics (whew!) and I thought....now Zeb...don't do it!!....But I did. I took a can of black spray paint and "ruined his day! " Made me feel better....sorry!

Don't forget Dr-History.com! Exciting episodes of the old West!!
