Holy jackknives!!...my 64 year old Roy Rogers pocket knife...great shape!...worth MILLIONS of memories. I came down with polio when I was 5 years old, as did many, many others in the epidemic of 1952. That first year of being bedridden and all the doctors and nurses and physical therapy and plans for corrective surgery in the future...WOW...say adios to a normal childhood. After that first year of living life "balanced on a pinhead", "things" started to normalize a bit. I was outfitted with braces and crutches and getting "ready" to start 1st Grade, I was excited. My Grandpa Richter owned a grocery store and was really close friends with many VIP folks in the entertainment and sports world. One of my most exciting moments was when "Grandpa" arranged for me to go into the (then) Milwaukee Braves dugout before a game and meet the players and get an autographed ball from the likes of Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, Warren Spahn and many others! (I still have that baseball!) One afternoon, I honestly can remember this, a package came for me from California...we didn't know anyone in California! Inside the box, was an autographed picture, an autographed bandana and a beautiful (for a 6 year old!)...jackknife...ALL from Roy Rogers...ROY ROGERS!!...with a note for me to "keep trying" and get well soon! I carried that knife everywhere and every night placed it on the bed stand right beside me! Roy Rogers and Trigger, what a special knife. As the years went by and I became less attracted to certain things, I lost track of that knife. I looked high and low for it...to no avail – it was gone. Years later, after moving to Idaho...a "special" package came in the mail. My wonderful Mom had found the picture, the bandana AND the jackknife in the attic! No present at anytime had ever made me happier! Today, in my living room, you'll find the bandana in a "special" glass frame AND the picture of Trigger and Roy right next to it! However, the knife...my beloved Roy Rogers knife is STILL...64 years later...in my pocket... Thanks for the memories Roy!

Where did he get that talent??...my son Jake (the fireman) has an amazing talent for unique wood working pieces. Where and how he got this ability or how he cultivated it...Deanne and I haven't got a clue. He just made a beautiful wall hanging that looks like a rodeo trophy buckle that's...amazing!...Everything I ever made in shop class or art class was either thrown out or...
Dad used as an ashtray!
