What's in your trophy case? A trophy from the Elks Lodge for winning a golf scramble? Maybe a medallion for finishing third in a 5K Run? Or maybe a ribbon for participating in a pie eating contest? Whatever is in your trophy case...do the items really matter?? My son built a trophy case for my rodeo "Trophy Buckles" to hang on the wall in our living room. These buckles represent almost 50 years of airplane flights, "one" star motels, BAD on the road food, all night drives from Washington to Nebraska, over the limit credit cards, lost baggage, rental cars AND power obsessed security "Barney Fife's" that think their authority is that of the FBI!!!! I "earned" most of my buckles from announcing the most prestigious equine events in the world – the National Finals Rodeo, The Olympics, the World Equestrian Games in Spain and many more. I "won" some of them roping at various team ropings around the Northwest and I'm very proud that God gave me enough talent over my physical challenges to still compete and...win. But the real trophies are not in a trophy case or hung on the wall...they eat, sleep and breathe....my real trophies are my family. God gave me a wonderful beautiful wife that has "hung in there" with me through some really "bad and desperate times", my son Jake and daughter Tobee were outstanding athletes and students and gave me so many moments of tearful pride in their achievements. And now...as parents themselves, they are raising some mighty fine young men...my GRANDSONS to carry on the family name. Most of my life is now in the rear view mirror and how much is left for me is unknown...its around the next curve in the road. Right now I savor every minute I can spend with my real "trophies" - my family – whether we're eating Christmas dinner or roping on a Sunday afternoon. "They" are my Gold Buckles and I'm very proud!!...what's in your trophy case?
Valentines Days...years ago...we'd give a Valentine card to everyone in class! "Be My Valentine" or "You're a Home Run Valentine" or "You score a Touch Down with Me, Valentine!" Remember all those cards? And of course, the Valentine Candy with the slogans on the pieces, and all the chocolate candy kisses and the heart shaped pink frosted cookies!! It was fun...too bad we don't do more of this 364 more days a year!
