Halloween advertising just ended...and now let's all get ready for CHRISTMAS!! Oh, the TV ads have already started, and there was an ad in our local "paper" for "Christmas Specials". Let's hurry and scurry merchants, as of today November 1st, there are only 54 shopping days left to make your big pile of seasonal "WAMPUM", oil those doors, fill those shelves, inflate your Santas...HURRY! For petes sake, time is of essence!!! But wait...whoa up your hoss' pard, didn't we forget something, didn't we overlook something?? Sure did, the forgotten holiday that does not provide retailers with a profit bonanza...THANKSGIVING. How dare we slow down for a holiday that sometimes gets in the way, a holiday that for far too many today is overlooked and a retail bother. What can you sell for Thanksgiving beside food and some greeting cards and maybe some new tv's to watch turkeyday football games...that's it and then at 12:01 AM, the utter madness and insanity of "Black Friday" makes the cash registers ring with a vengeance!...Step off and loosen your cinch for a moment dear reader. I was raised to honor and respect Thanksgiving Day as a day to remember, a day to recall with misty eyes all that we have and ask God's blessings on those that helped us to enjoy it. I won't forget my family, aunts and uncles, Grandpas and Grandmas, all our cousins getting together on Thanksgiving to simply say Thank You...THANK YOU dear God for our bounty, our lives and our blessings. No gifts are exchanged, but yet I always felt after that family day, I'd been given sooo much. There was always a warm feeling remembering my Uncle Bud's gravelly laugh, or my Aunt Millie's "questionable" humor, and my Mom's fantastic fruit salad. I remember my strict Father warning my sister and I not to spill anything...and then moments later he dropped the gravy bowl! I remember Mom baking enough pecan and pumpkin pies to feed an army, and her mixing up real whipped cream to top em' off! I remember after dinner was done, everyone navigated to a chair, the sofas, or the floor to watch the Packers play the Lions, a tradition at that time! Four or five hours later, Mom would put "left overs" on the table and anyone that wanted another "Go Around" was welcome to fill a plate...we all did! And then, everyone got their coats and hats and started to leave into the cold Wisconsin evening, I remember how sad and melancholy I felt that this day, this Thanksgiving Day was over. No...I'll never forget Thanksgiving...it's a very special day and always will be. Pause a little as we get closer to November 28 Thanksgiving, take stock of what and who you are and how blessed you are with your family and give the Thanksgiving Holiday the remembrance it deserves!

Don't forget Dr-History.com! Exciting episodes of the old West!!
