We came home from doctor's appointments, errands and fighting traffic in Twin Falls on Friday to find our beloved dog, Ruby, semi-conscious. What a jolt to Deanne and I! Quickly Deanne scooped her up into her arms and held her as Ruby's eyes barely seemed to recognize us...we thought the end was near. We've had little Ruby for 9 years, and she was 8 when we got her! 17 years old for a Mini-aussie – Corgi cross is really unheard of! She has been the highlight of our days, traveling with us all over the U.S., and never has caused a problem or been a nuisance...both Deanne and I looked into Ruby's eyes and prayed that God would "bring her back, for a few more days!" She's been one of a kind. She loves ice cream, and honestly, when we drive near a McDonald's and she sees the golden arches, she starts to growl for her favorite treat. When we go through the bank drive-in, she jumps up on the center console and just glares at the tellers until they put a dog treat in the tray! At ropings, we tether her to the steps on the truck and any dog, any size, knows by her "vicious" growl to give her a wide berth. Even at her advanced age, she still can give any cat on the ranch a run for their money and she literally "smiles" when she "trees em" up on the straw stack! When my steers are out on pasture, she loves to swagger into the middle of them and bark and snarl...and when they've had enough, they charge at her and she looks like a rolling fur ball beating a hasty retreat...we love this little dog...we prayed. Dear Reader, its Saturday morning...and Ruby is much better, more alert and eating...for now, our prayers have been answered and we are THANKFUL!...we all need to pray for our loved ones and cherish the moments with them because they can so quickly fade away. For this Thanksgiving, slow down, come to a stop, and remember and pray for family and friends that are here today...but...maybe gone tomorrow. Be thankful for them...they are God's gift to you!
