I always carry two knives...one is for possible need, the other to remind me of better, wholesome times. After I came down with polio in 1952, my Grandpa had connections with the sponsors of the "Roy Rogers" television show. Shortly thereafter, I received a big box of Roy Rogers memorabilia, chaps & vest, 2 six guns and holsters, an autographed picture of Roy and Trigger and a signed bandana he had worn on his tv show. One more item...a Roy Rogers and Trigger jackknife. Yes Sir, I had that knife with me all the time and I can't believe I didn't lose it. Just before my mother passed away, she sent me a box of some of my childhood items and in the box was my knife, my Roy Rogers knife! I had not seen it for over 60 years! What kind of shape is it in?...almost perfect! I carry it all the time as a remembrance of days I wish we could return to again...bad people and bad deeds were punished and stopped...we laughed, we prayed, we cared for our neighbors, we saved for the future and cherished what we had. There was right and wrong and wrong was not to be tolerated...we had a moral compass. We looked forward to Christmas and the giving and sharing and on the 4th of hot July we went to parades, picnics, and fireworks together...EVERYBODY!...we loved this Country! That was a time for Roy Rogers, wholesome, good, respectful, and God loving...that's why I carry that knife...I yearn for those days to return again!
